About Johnny

I am a strong believer that yoga is for everybody and every body, no matter your experience, ability, age, body type, income, race, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, sex or gender. I received my 200-hour yoga teacher certification in January 2021, and in 2022 I certified to teach yin, restorative, and accessible yoga.

Expect a bit of fun and playfulness in my classes, as I encourage students to gain a better understanding of their bodies by exploring breath, movement and the use of props.

Yoga Yurtopia is a product of love and passion. I aim to provide a space for peace and quite, to practice yoga in a calm, non-judgemental environment - away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Please feel free to explore and enjoy the garden before and/or after your practice!

Testimonials

"A community-centred safe haven — galaxies away from “just a yoga class.” Johnny holds space with such presence and care. His kind spirit, meditative voice, and conscious teaching invite you to slow down. Enough to hear your body’s rhythm and nature humming just beyond the yurt walls. The space itself feels sacred and every visit leaves me lighter, grounded, and energetically restored. The garden and fireplace add rich layers of magic to the experience. Johnny keeps his classes accessible and open to all, with flexible pricing and a complimentary first class. There’s no safer place to do yoga in Barnet than here."

-Rosella

"Thoroughly enjoyed a class yesterday, as Anita's guest. I'm a beginner and nothing was difficult. Johnny explained everything concentrating on breathing, stretching and holding poses. Thank you for the warm experience Johnny. "

-Lynne

"I came for a whole day yoga retreat. I haven't done something like that before (although I have experience with the individual elements like cacao ceremony, sound healing, restorative yoga etc). The experience was beautiful and the lunch was fantastic! Johnny and his team really put a lot of thought and effort into making the day special for the participants. Would be back again! "

-Ling

"I did the Restorative Yoga & Sound Journey on Saturday and absolutely loved it! A beginner in yoga with Rheumatoid Arthritis but John made me so comfortable, making sure the positions felt natural for my body and joints were supported. Holding positions for 15 minutes with the fabulous sound bath was an experience I would truly recommend and I can't wait for the next one."

As an accessible yoga ambassador, Johnny is committed to making yoga more affordable for all. As such, tiered pricing is offered based on income; we respect the honour system, please pay what you can. We also understand that finances change, so if you need to pay a lower rate at times, that is perfectly acceptable.

*Community Rate (a lower rate, supported by your peers)
*Sustainer Rate (standard rate, covers your enrolment)
*Supporter Rate (covers your enrolment + supports your peers)

These rates are available for all our packages and memberships: Drop-in sessions, 5- and 10-class passes, monthly unlimited and annual unlimited.

If you are able to enrol at the Supporter or Sustainer Rate, your contributions support the ability to offer a lower rate to community members experiencing financial difficulties.

The Green Bottle: Where You Fall On The Sliding Scale

You may bring a mat if you wish, but mats and all props (bricks, blocks, bolsters, blankets) will be available.

Please arrive at least 5-10 minutes prior to the start of the class to allow yourself time to wonder down the garden and get settled onto your mat before class begins.

Yoga Yurtopia is located at 56 Park Road, New Barnet, EN4 9QF - the house with the yellow door. We are a 15-20 minute walk from both New Barnet train station and Cockfosters tube station.

From either station, you can also take the 384 bus to our location. It is a Hail & Ride bus, with no 'dedicated' stop; push the button when you are near and the bus will stop.

Note, however, that the bus from New Barnet station takes a loop around the neighbourhood, so could take up to 20 minutes.

When you arrive at the location (56 Park Road, New Barnet, EN4 9QF - the house with the yellow door), enter through the wooden gate, pass through the (unfinished) extension and follow the wood-chipped pathway. The yurt is at the bottom of a 65-meter-long tropical-style garden.

There is a camping toilet in a shed in the garden, with a slightly wobbly brick floor. While you are welcome to use the facilities (we do understand when nature calls!), if you could come prepared to practice that would be great.

Yes, the yurt will be open and classes conducted come rain or shine, or whatever mother nature throws our way! There is a log burner for extra warmth during the colder months, and an outdoor space to practice in the warmer months (bug spray and sun screen will be available).

We understand that life happens! Therefore, you can cancel your registration up to 1 hour prior to the start of the class for a full refund.

Unfortunately, I am not equipped to take payment at the studio. Please book online; this also helps with the roster, as space is limited to 6 students.
